In December 2020, we asked our clients and industry partners for their feedback on proposed fee changes for 2021-2023. This consultation ended on January 31, 2021 and is now closed. We thank all participants for their input as their insights helped us determine how we will structure and implement fee changes.
With client feedback and COVID-19 related recovery indicators in mind, Technical Safety BC’s fees have increased by 2%, effective May 17, 2021. This increase does not apply to the amusement devices technology as our research indicates that this industry has experienced unparalleled impact due to COVID-19. What we do with the revenue collected from fees
As a self-funded safety regulator, Technical Safety BC does not receive government funding. We work with industry and other partners to administer safety regulations and oversee the safe installation and operation of technical systems and equipment in BC.
Some examples of what we've done in 2020 include:
Launching online design registration: Clients can enjoy faster turnaround time for their submissions, easily find the form they need, and track the status of their submissions. Clients can also communicate directly with the responsible engineer.
Introducing remote assessments: Per public health guidelines, remote assessments became our primary method of assessment. Together with physical assessments (when needed), we target areas of highest public risk while maximizing efficiency and safety.
Educating and supporting building owners: We're helping building owners better understand their responsibilities, and bringing more awareness to equipment safety hazards.
Advancing industry knowledge: Certification programs are up to date with the latest industry safety knowledge and certification exams were made available online.
